First
Night Chatham is a family-friendly New Year’s Eve celebration focused
on the arts. Based on the celebration created in Boston In 1976, First
Night celebrations are now held in more than 200 cities worldwide, but
only in Chatham on the Cape. First Night Chatham
has become a wonderful way for people to come together and ring in the
New Year in a festive, family friendly, alcohol-free 
atmosphere.
Centered on Main Street, First Night Chatham offers something for everyone
-- a circus, musicians, presentations by local artists, theater, opera,
entertainment, a bonfire, a noise parade, the Countdown Cod Drop, and
a fireworks finale!
Come to town this New Year's Eve and Celebrate the Fun of the Forties! Remember Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers? Remember Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy of Company B? Bambi and The Miracle on 34th Street? Gene Autrey, Glenn Miller, and Harry James? Come on out to bring in the new year in that fabulous 1940s style!

Buttons are the admission to most of the entertainment. They are available
at Marge's Place, 585 Main Street, or by mail.
Buttons are $15 each for adults, $5 each for children ages 3 to 12.

With Creative Programming Award
First Night International, the umbrella organization that fosters the First Night concept, awarded First Night Chatham the prestigious Creative Programming Award for Countdown Cod©, the illiuminated scupture that was lowered from a crane to welcome in the new year. It is Chatham's answer to the famous ball at Times Square. First Night Chatham vice chairman Richard Clifford is the creator, designer and builder of the aluminum lighted cod fish. It will now become the signature emblem of every upcoming First Night in Chatham.
